Six ways Freedom Rave Wear is making a difference in 2020

By Maureen (momo_dubz)

Global warming, a civil rights movement, and a global pandemic… oh and cancel all of the festivals... welcome to 2020! *facepalm*

This year has been a tough one, to say the least. Tensions are high, spirits are low and it seems like there’s a whole new chaotic event lurking around every corner. But aside from all of the hardship, it seems as though our lil rave community is closer than ever.

Of course, there have been some quarrels, debates surrounding what’s going on in the world today. Some members of our community, from the ravers themselves all the way up to the rave clothing and production companies have shown their true colors in 2020. Some I have gained more respect for, followed for their outspoken voices and contagious determination during these tough times. Others I’ve unfollowed or withdrawn my business from due to their inaction or downright intolerable behavior.

Freedom Rave Wear is one of those companies that I remain proud to support. I’ve watched them not only speak up but take the strides necessary in making a difference in the face of the world’s problems.

So I thought it was time we gave one of our favorite companies a little pat on the back, to briefly explain the issues going on and how FRW has responded.

COPING WITH COIVD-19

  1. Creating products for our “new normal”

Welp, the reality is, there are no festivals. Like many of you, I was devastated when my home festivals (Electric Forest and Lost Lands) were canceled. It’s not only the general experience of the festivals I hold so dearly to my heart, but wearing my rave clothes too. So needless to say, I was ecstatic to see FRW releasing more versatile pieces that can be worn out in public and to raves alike! Everything from masks to activewear to bikinis and beach towels, I get to sparkle or glow in the dark with that FRW vibe now everywhere I go!

  1. Face mask donations

Everyone deserves to stay safe and healthy during the pandemic and FRW has made it so easy to lend a helping hand. Through the face mask donation center link on the FRW app or website, you can donate your time or money to help get masks to those in need. If you know of an organization or group that is in need of masks to distribute, you can also recommend them to FRW here!

STANDING UP FOR RACIAL INJUSTICE

  1. Promoting information to get involved

As I was making my most recent purchase on FRW I noticed an option right below the “Add to cart” button to donate to BLM. I’ve also noticed that most of the links in their IG bio are to signing petitions, making phone calls and donations to groups who are fighting for racial justice. With such a huge platform, making these links readily available to followers is such a huge step in the right direction when it comes to getting involved in this movement.

  1. Championing black voices

One of the most important parts of the movement is recognizing that there’s always room for improvement. FRW has recently welcomed a new team member as a Diversity and Inclusion specialist. Nia will be helping the team celebrate the diversity of the community more through the company. I’ve always seen beautiful women of all colors and sizes in FRW campaigns, but it makes me very happy to see them taking extra steps to expand their inclusion a bit more.

STAYING ECO-FRIENDLY

  1. Carbon offset option at checkout

Did you know that the U.S. emits the most CO2 per capita in the world? Obviously, it’s not possible to eliminate carbon dioxide emissions when it comes to online shopping. But it IS possible to offset them. FRW has teamed up with EcoCart to give customers the option to make their order carbon-neutral at checkout. This feature donates to a forest conservancy organization to balance out the CO2 emission from producing and shipping your order.

  1. Upcycled products from scraps

A whole new line of products from FRW was made completely from scrap fabric that would usually be thrown away! Upcycling reduces waste by using fabric that would typically be discarded for new products. That new microkini you’re drooling over? Yep, that’s eco-friendly!

Just as today’s world is evolving, the festival fashion world is evolving too. FRW has always been more to me than just flashy clothing that makes my assets look hella good while I bounce around a festival. It’s a symbol of my journey to self-confidence, independence, and true happiness. They’re more than just a clothing brand. They’re genuinely trying to make a difference in society: to make sure we’re safe, healthy, empowered, informed, compassionate, and of course, that we look damn good while we’re all doing our part in making the world a better place to live in.
