Staying at Camp EDC 2019

By Makenna Berry (@makennanoelle_)

EDC Las Vegas 2019 is over and we’re back to our day-to-day lives. If you went, I hope you had the time of your life! If you didn’t go, I hope you saw the live streams and the flood of pictures to encourage you to buy your 2020 ticket! For those who are going to return next year, I highly recommend camping at Camp EDC. Not only do you get to enjoy the pool parties, pre-parties, and after parties, but there are also a ton of activities to participate in to make your EDC experience even better.

Arrival

I didn’t attend EDC in 2018, but apparently, there was an excessive wait time for campers to check in and go through security. Luckily, the Insomniac team was able to resolve those problems this year. My friends and I arrived early, which made the rest of our day stress-free. We parked our car, grabbed our first load, and got in line to check in and get our camping wristbands. The line only took about 20 minutes and then it was just a couple trips to the car to bring in the rest of our stuff. My number one tip for arriving/leaving camp is to bring some kind of wagon to transport your stuff. This would have helped out SO much, but now we know to be prepared with one next time.

When you set up your campsite, it’s smart to bring something to put on your tent, so that you can identify it among all of the other identical tents. We put up a blanket with two unicorns that said “Magical As F*ck,” lol.

Staying at Camp

Parties

Campers got to enjoy sets by Fisher, Saymyname, Joyryde, Kaskade, Justin Martin, and more. My favorite part about the camping sets was that you could party by the pool, in the grass, or even just listen while you wander throughout the Mesa.

Activities

The Mesa was the best place to be around camp because that’s where all of the activities took place. Unfortunately, I missed out on trying a lot of the things I wanted to, but there’s always next year! Next year, I will definitely be participating in Goat Yoga. If you’ve never heard of it, it’s basically just yoga, but with a bunch of little goats walking around and ON you. That one fills up fast though, so if you want a spot, make sure you get there early. And if goats aren’t really your thing, they also have regular yoga too.

If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to shuffle, Camp EDC also had shuffling classes! It looked fun, but I was so tired and slept through it, so don’t follow my lead and get out there! Again, there’s always next year and I will definitely be there.

Food

I would recommend bringing food that you can keep in a cooler in your tent because the food is a little pricey (depending on what you get). However, if money isn’t an issue for you, there are plenty of options for food! You can keep it simple by getting chicken tenders, but there are also vegan options for those who want/need it. My friend and I split an order of the loaded nachos and I would 10/10 recommend.

If you choose to bring in your own food, it’s smart to bring stuff that doesn’t require refrigeration. Your ice will inevitably melt and it’s $12 a bag once you’re inside. We brought cheese, frozen (cooked) chicken, and tortillas so we could make quesadillas (portable stove tops are a life-saver), but by Sunday, I was a little skeptical about eating the chicken. We also brought lots of snacks like granola bars, goldfish, and bagels. Next year, I think it would be smart to bring the go-to PB&J sandwiches since they won’t go bad and they are a classic.

In/Out Privileges

One of the perks of staying at Camp EDC was that you could go in and out of the festival. Keep in mind that you’ll still have to go in and out of security though, so you don’t want to be going back and forth all night. It is helpful though if you forget to bring something inside, like a jacket, since this year was much colder than most of us anticipated.

Overall, Camp EDC was an amazing experience and I can’t wait to do it again next year. If you stayed at Camp EDC, I would love to hear about your experience and any tips/tricks you have!
