If you're not familiar with Electric Forest, you were just like me when I first heard about this legendary festival. I thought it was truly just half-naked people running around in the forest roughing it... and I wondered what was the point of that? Then my best friend went to Electric Forest and she came back and told me about how she got to talk to Lorin (Bassnectar) through a phone in a tree, about life and how we're all beautiful people just sharing in the experiences of music together. I was 'in' after that. I knew I needed to go!

This festival hasn't always been around, and surprisingly enough I've only really started hearing about it the past few years. The first Electric Forest event was held in 2011 and is co-produced by Madison House Presents and Insomniac Events. The original event started off as a single weekend event, but in recent years they doubled the fun and made it a two-weekend experience! That's right, you heard me, two weekends of pure forest magic!

WHO | WHAT | WHEN | WHERE

The forest is held every year in Rothbury, Michigan at the Double JJ Resort, typically in late June through early July. If you're not sure how you're going to get there, go check out the Electric Forest page for an amazing breakdown of all the different ways that you can possibly get to the forest! We'll talk about some of them below ;) Also, make sure you learn all about what you will definitely need while you're there. But let us just start with the basics, shall we?

Ticket Options

There are a ton of different options in terms of how you want to enjoy your E-Forest experience. They want everyone to have a great experience, and I 10/10 support that. But, just so you know what you're getting yourself into, here's a great breakdown of all your different options, including the amenities that go along with them!

Depending on the experience that you're wanting to have you have various options. GA camping is a popular option for many festival goers! You have the option to tent-only camp, which you guessed it, means that it's just you and the tent! This is a great option if you're taking a bus, shuttle, uber, or flying in. If you're looking for more transportation options like that, head over to the Electric Forest website for some excellent options!

If GA camping isn't for you, or you're just looking to splurge on your festival experience (this is a great festival for that), then check out their Good Life options. Within their VIP options, you have quite a few choices. You can camp only with your tent, or with your car! Which is similar to GA, however, things change when you start looking into their Back 40 options, which provide attendees with a little more camping space and you're amongst the trees. How magical.

What to Pack for Electric Forest

When it comes to packing your rave outfits for the forest, think layers and versatility. Michigan weather can be unpredictable—you might experience warm, sunny days and cooler nights. Pack a mix of breathable festival tops for the day and something with a little more coverage like a festival pashmina for those late-night sets when the temperature drops. Don't forget comfortable rave shorts or joggers that can transition from campsite to dance floor!

If you're planning to make a statement in the forest (and let's be honest, who isn't?), consider packing a show-stopping rave bodysuit that'll catch the light under the canopy. The forest is known for its incredible photo ops, so you'll want outfits that look as magical in pictures as they feel in the moment. The campgrounds typically open Thursday morning and close Monday afternoon—giving you four full days to create magic!

Curated Events

Electric Forest is known for bringing incredible curated events from major labels and collectives. In past years, we've seen BassRush takeovers featuring massive bass music lineups with artists throwing down back-to-back sets that become legendary moments. These curated stages give you a chance to experience multiple artists from the same label or genre in one concentrated, high-energy experience.

Each year brings different takeovers—from house music collectives to trance families to bass music labels. Past years have featured everything from Desert Hearts' sunrise sets to Dirtybird's funky house vibes. The beauty of these curated events is that they're not just about the music—they're about the community. You'll find yourself surrounded by people who love the same sounds you do, creating an instant connection that's pure festival magic.

What makes these events even more special is that they often happen at unique stages throughout the forest. You might catch a sunrise yoga session followed by a deep house set, or stumble upon a secret B2B in the woods that becomes your favorite moment of the weekend. Art Installations & Interactive Experiences

Outside of all the amazing musicians that Electric Forest brings to Michigan every year, there are also some spectacular art installations. They're scattered throughout the fairgrounds and campgrounds, creating a living, breathing gallery that you can explore at your own pace. You'll get to experience artists making amazing pieces in real-time—everything ranging from paintings to wood carvings to massive sculptures that seem to grow out of the forest itself.

The interactive nature of the forest is what sets it apart from other festivals. You're not just a spectator here—you're invited to become part of the art. Want to add your own brushstroke to a collaborative painting? There's a space for that. Looking to leave your mark with a message of love? As mentioned earlier, there are also all kinds of awesome opportunities to interact with anyone in the forest—from fellow attendees to surprise artist appearances. Past years have featured everything from phones hidden in trees that connect you to secret conversations, to elaborate treasure hunts that lead to hidden stages.

The Venue & Navigation

First things first, don't be like me at my first festival. I had no idea how big the grounds could be until I was wandering around and realized that I had no idea how to get back to my tent! So, luckily E-Forest provides you with the ease of using a stellar app that makes navigating not only the grounds directionally but also allows you to navigate the artistic landscape as well as set times and special events.

The grounds are thoughtfully organized into distinct areas, each with its own vibe and energy. When you walk into the festival grounds, you're going to see the Tripolee stage. This is where you're going to find your heavy bass options, as well as the closing shows for each night and morning yoga sessions to help you recover! The energy at Tripolee is absolutely electric—this is where the bass heads congregate for those mind-melting drops and face-melting visuals.

From there you should absolutely journey into the Ranch Arena, which is considered the Main Stage. This is where you'll find the biggest headliners and most massive production. The Ranch is perfect for those moments when you want to be part of a sea of thousands, all moving together to the same beat.

But the real magic happens when Sherwood Forest starts calling your name! Here there are multiple stages tucked into the trees, each offering a completely different experience. You might stumble upon an intimate DJ set at The Observatory, catch some funky beats at Jubilee, or discover a secret stage you didn't even know existed. Outside of just the music, Sherwood Forest also offers amazing art installations, hammock lounges, and hidden experiences around every corner. This is where the festival truly earns its name—wandering through the illuminated trees at night feels like stepping into another dimension.

Making the Most of Your Forest Experience

Electric Forest isn't just about the music—it's about the entire experience. Take time during the day to explore the forest without the crowds.
