Girl with camera

Modeling has become a great way to connect with people and share your passion. But what if you have this passion and are not really sure where to start? Nowadays utilizing social media is your biggest tool and easiest way to help you get started on your own journey. AND - with New Years coming up, it's a perfect time to brush up on new ways to get yourself out there with the help of a few tips and tricks for the new year of 2020. Now let's get started..

The number one way to start modeling is getting comfortable in front of the camera! Practice poses, facial movements, anything that works for you. Take serious, silly, smiley photos of yourself to get more of an idea of what looks good on you. Modeling is not all about being serious all the time, it’s about being able to alternate your emotions to match the look of the photo and telling a story with your face. Confidence is key and it all just takes a little bit of practice. Once you feel that you have practiced a few poses and facial movements you should start to shoot with some photographers if you haven't already!

I can not stress this enough, shoot as much as you can. Not only will this give you a lot of experience on being in front of the camera, it is great exposure too. Even if you do not end up using the photos, it is more about the learning experience. This is what has helped me the most and has opened up many doors for me to shoot with brands like Freedom Rave Wear, Vibedration, Boom Boom, iHeartRaves and many more. Push yourself out of your comfort zone and meet with photographers who are willing to shoot! You can always find someone - they do not need to be advanced because there are a lot of photographers who are just starting up just like you!

Grab a notebook and start writing down your goals NOW! The sooner you get started, the easier it will be for you to start on your path to modeling. This would be a great tool for you to start brainstorming the shoots you want to do, the photographers you potentially want to meet with and more. Scaling it down by writing it is a great way to keep track of everything without overwhelming yourself. If you already feel like you have been keeping track of everything and shooting with photographers but you still want other goals write that down too! This has helped me tremendously to keep track of who I collaborate with and making sure I meet their expectations and vice versa.

Once you get this down and feel comfortable with shooting and collaborating with photographers, this would be a great time for you to start reaching out to companies. It doesn't hurt to try and you never know what companies could be looking for in a model for their look.

I hope to see you pursue your passion in modeling and found these tips helpful to start your new year!
