What is Miami Music Week (MMW)?!

Matte Black Goddess Bodysuit — What is Miami Music Week (MMW)?! — Freedom Rave Wear

For an entire week in March, time doesn't exist in Miami. During Miami Music Week (MMW) there is amplified electronic music playing somewhere, every hour of the day and night. The world's biggest DJs congregate in Miami for a crazy week of parties that is unlike anything else in the world. This marathon event takes place alongside the Winter Music Conference and Ultra Music Festival, creating a bass-fueled paradise that draws hundreds of thousands of ravers from across the globe.

With a little bit of planning, you can almost see all of the artists at Ultra Music Festival without ever having to step on the festival grounds. Often times many DJs come just for Music Week and do not even play the festival. Venues and clubs all around Wynwood, Downtown Miami, Miami Beach, and Little Haiti host events in addition to nonconventional locations like yachts, pools, and pop-up locations. Whether you're hunting for intimate warehouse sets or massive pool party takeovers, MMW delivers experiences you won't find anywhere else.

The History of Miami Music Week

The very first Miami Music Week took place in 2011 when Ultra Music Festival was hosting its thirteenth year. The festival got its start in Miami in 1999 when founders Russell Faibisch and Alex Omes hosted it on Miami Beach. They named the event after the 1997 Depeche Mode album, Ultra. The festival itself has changed venues several times to accommodate the growing number of attendees, though it has found its home at Bayfront Park where it continues to host three days of world-class electronic music every March.

Regardless of the festival's location changes over the years, Miami Music Week has continued to flourish and grow. In recent years, over 85 venues have hosted 300+ events featuring over 1,000 artists. The scale is staggering—from sunrise sessions at Club Space to sunset boat parties in Biscayne Bay, the entire city transforms into a dance music playground.

What to Expect at Miami Music Week 2026

This week is dance music paradise with just about every major record label and production company hosting their own events. From pool parties to night time parties to breakfast breakers to sunset cruises to just about everything in between, there is a little bit of something for everyone. The marathon schedule typically runs from Tuesday through Sunday, with Ultra Music Festival anchoring the final three days.

If you're someone who lives for back-to-back sets and sunrise sessions, MMW is your personal heaven. The vibe is electric, the weather is perfect, and you'll be surrounded by your rave fam from every corner of the world. Just remember: pacing is everything. This isn't a sprint—it's a week-long celebration of everything we love about dance music culture.

Can't-Miss Events at Miami Music Week

The full schedule typically drops a few months before the event, but here are some legendary parties that have become MMW staples:

Dirtybird Takeover at Club Space

If you're a true house head, the Dirtybird takeover is non-negotiable. Club Space is legendary for its marathon sets, and Dirtybird has been known to take over the venue for almost 24 hours straight. Yes, that's right—glorious house beats pumped through the speakers from 11 pm to 7 pm the next day. The roof of Space is all glass, so as the sun comes up it shines through the whole venue creating an unreal experience for those sunrise warriors. Picture yourself at 8 am, still dancing, as golden light floods the dancefloor and the last of the night owls become the first of the early birds.

Elrow Miami

Making a name for themselves in Ibiza, the production of an Elrow party is one you do not want to miss. Elrow is a staple event of MMW, bringing their signature immersive, over-the-top experience to Miami every year. Expect theatrical production, larger-than-life caricatures, performers in wild costumes walking on stilts, inflatables flying through the air, and some of the highest energy in Miami at all times. This is the party where your rave outfits get to shine—the more colorful and bold, the better. Elrow celebrates self-expression in every form, and you'll fit right in with the most creative lewks you can imagine.

Carl Cox Disco, Funk & Soul

For as many years as ravers can remember, Carl Cox has hosted his legendary Disco, Funk, and Soul party at Basement Miami. This event is unique because you can find the techno legend spinning disco records, but the venue also features a bowling alley and skating rink for patrons to enjoy. It's a refreshing change of pace from the heavy bass and techno dominating most of the week. Throw on some vintage-inspired festival tops and prepare for a groovy, feel-good vibe that'll have you smiling from ear to ear.

Record Label Showcases

Throughout the week, major labels like Anjunabeats, Toolroom, Spinnin' Records, and Defected host their own showcases featuring their roster of artists. These parties often happen at iconic venues like RC Cola Plant, Story, or even on private yachts. The intimate settings mean you're experiencing your favorite artists in a completely different way than you would at a massive festival. It's pure magic.

What to Wear to Miami Music Week

Miami in March is hot, humid, and sunny—which means your outfit strategy needs to balance style with comfort. Think breathable fabrics, bold colors, and pieces that can transition from daytime pool parties to nighttime club sets.

For pool parties, rave bodysuits are your best friend. They're comfortable, they photograph amazing, and you won't have to worry about anything riding up or shifting around while you're dancing. Pair with high-waisted rave shorts and you've got a look that works from noon until midnight.

For club nights, level up with holographic fabrics, mesh details, or anything that catches the light. Miami's club scene is fashion-forward, so this is your chance to go bold. If you're raving with your partner, matching rave outfits always turn heads and make for incredible photo ops.

Don't forget the accessories: sunglasses for those brutal midday walks between venues, a light festival pashmina for over-air-conditioned clubs, and comfortable shoes because you'll be walking (and dancing) miles every single day.

Pro Tips for Surviving (and Thriving) at MMW

If you have never been to Miami during this wild marathon of a week, I highly recommend checking it out at least once. If you're brave enough, you may even tackle all three days of Ultra Music Festival in addition to Miami Music Week's shenanigans. Here's how to make the most of it:

  • Hydrate religiously. The Miami heat is no joke, and when you're dancing for 12+ hours a day, water is your best friend. Carry a refillable bottle and actually use it.
  • Plan your schedule but stay flexible. Map out your must-see events, but don't over-schedule. Some of the best MMW memories happen when you stumble into an unexpected pop-up party.
  • Get actual sleep. Yes, FOMO is real, but burning out by Thursday does nobody any favors. Your body needs rest to keep going.
  • Eat real food. Grab those veggies, get some protein, fuel your body properly. You can't dance on an empty stomach (or survive on vodka Red Bulls alone).
  • Bring your rave fam. MMW is even better when you're experiencing it with your crew. Split Airbnbs, coordinate outfits, and create memories that'll last a lifetime.
  • Download the official app. Event schedules, venue maps, and last-minute lineup changes all get posted there first.
  • Budget wisely. Between event tickets, food, drinks, and transportation, costs add up fast. Set a daily budget and stick to it.

Why MMW Matters

Miami Music Week isn't just about the parties—it's a pilgrimage for the global dance music community. It's where industry professionals network, where artists debut unreleased tracks, where ravers from every continent come together to celebrate the culture we love. You'll meet people who traveled from Australia, Europe, South America, and every corner of the US, all united by the same passion for electronic music.

The energy is different here. There's a sense of belonging, of being part of something bigger than yourself. Whether you're catching Armin van Buuren at Ultra or discovering your new favorite underground artist at a warehouse party in Wynwood, every moment feels significant. This is where memories are made, where friendships are forged, and where you remember exactly why you fell in love with this music in the first place.
